who i am.

My name is Georgina Ottley, though my brand is sleepygirlstudios online. I’m a UK based prop maker currently completing an MA in Prop Making at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where my work is rooted in hands-on, production-driven practice. My training spans a wide range of workshop disciplines, including carpentry, sculpting, moulding and casting, and finishing, allowing me to approach each project with both technical precision and creative flexibility.

My work is driven by a strong interest in how props function beyond decoration. I’m particularly drawn to objects that carry narrative weight, props that feel lived-in, that suggest history, and that help shape character and story. Whether I’m recreating detailed replicas or developing original pieces, I focus on texture, materiality, and storytelling to create objects that feel authentic on screen and stage.

Through my experience working on professional-standard productions, I’ve developed a collaborative approach and a strong understanding of workshop workflow, deadlines, and problem-solving under pressure. I enjoy being part of a team and contributing to the wider visual world of a production, while also taking ownership of my own builds from concept through to completion. Across my portfolio, I’m drawn to pieces that feel tactile and lived-in, with attention to surface, ageing, and material detail. I enjoy the challenge of making objects feel believable within their world, whether that’s through subtle distressing, material choices, or construction methods that mirror real-world function.

I’m especially interested in film, television, and theatre projects where props play a meaningful role in storytelling, where objects don’t just exist in a scene, but actively contribute to it.
